The Dagestan police shot dead a man who resisted them after they tried to check his documents, RIA Novosti reports. The incident took place near the republic's prosecutor's office.
The dead man has been identified as an active member of the so-called Makhachkala terrorist group, Zalikhman Bagautdinov.
According to police information, Bagautdinov was a leader of the bombers of the terrorist group.
An investigation is under way.
