Caspian status to be discussed in Moscow

Moscow will host the 29th session of the special working group for
development of a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea on
July 19-20. Deputy foreign ministers of Caspian states will attend the
session, 1news.az reports.


Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan will send delegations.


Another topic of the session is preparations for the Fourth Caspian
Summit in Russia.


The Caspian states signed a framework convention on environmental
protection of the sea in 2003.


Kazakhstan and Russia signed a border agreement on the Caspian in July
1998 and a protocol to it in 2002.


Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan signed a similar agreement and a protocol on
November 29, 2001, and February 27, 2003, respectively.
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agrement on the crossing
point of their borders in the Caspian Sea on May 14, 2003.
