Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has appointed new members to the
Central Electoral Commission, News Armenia reports.
Artak Meliksetyan was appointed for 3 years, Tatevik Oganyan for 5
years and Armen Smbatyan for 7 years. They were proposed by the
ombudsman.
Members of the Court of Cassation were also appointed: Laura Galstyan
for 5 years and Garegin Azaryan for 7. Candidates to chair the Chamber
of Lawyers were also appointed: Georgy Martirosyan for 3 years and
Silva Markosyan for 5.
The parliament passed amendments to the Electoral Code. CEC members
are appointed by the president for 5 years. The president chooses from
15 candidates. The old members will leave on July 14, 2011.
Armenia will hold parliamentary polls in 2012 and presidential polls in 2013.
