Russian foreign minister and US president discuss Nagorno-Karabakh peace process

US President Barack Obama held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. They discussed the situation in Libya, Syria and Yemen, Palestinian-Isaraeli and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace processes in the White House on Wednesday, ITAR-TASS reports.


Obama thanked Lavrov for efforts in signing new documents on simplification of the visa-regime.


Obama said that the US will support negotiations with Libya if Muammar Gaddafi resigns.


Lavrov and Obama discussed the situation in Sudan and Southern Sudan, the nuclear problem in Iran, the role of the international society in preventing violence in Syria and Yemen, further steps towards Russia, USA, UN and EU in settling the Middle East conflicts.


The US president praised the Russian diplomat for efforts in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and confirmed US devotion to reach a framework convention. They also discussed anti-missile defense in Europe, Russian membership in the WTO and democracy in Russia. Obama confirmed that the White House support Russia as a WTO member.
