Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili has fired four police
officers for violations during a crackdown on opposition of the
People's Assembly in Tbilisi on May 26. One officer was demoted, three
received severe reprimands and 5 received reprimands, the head of the
department for analysis and information Shota Utiashvili said, Trend
reports.
100 people were questioned and confirmed excess use of force by police.
Dozens were injured in the crackdown, 105 people were detained. Four
people died on Rustaveli Square, two of them, including a police
officer, were hit by a convoy of protesters, two others were killed by
an electric cable on the roof of a store.
