Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has held a council on migration.
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Vice-Premier and Minister for
Territorial Administration Armen Gevorkyan, head of the Presidential
Administration Karen Karapetyan, director of the National Security
Service Gorik Akopyan, Police Chief Alik Sargsyan, head of the
migration service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration Gagik
Yeganyan and head of the National Statistics Service Stepan
Mnatsakanyan were at the meeting, Armenia Today reports.
The president said that 45,000 people left the country in
January-April 2011. 40,000 of whom will return in October-December.
President Sargsyan said that there is not enough authentic information
on migration processes. Correct data will be available after the
census in 2012.
Population flow in 2000 was 857,000, in 2007 - 2.5 million, in 2010 -
3.5 million
About 57,000 people returned to Armenia in 2000, 60,000 in 2001, there
was positive balance in 2004-2006, and 23,000-29,000 have been
returning in the years since.
The number of people departing in the first half of 2011 has exceeded
the number returning by 67,000.
