Adygeya has developed a new sort of tea, RIA Novosti cites the
director of the office of the All-Russian Science Research Institute
of Flower Cultivation and Subtropical Cultures of the Academy of
Agriculture, Eduard Pchikhachev, as saying.
The new tea was developed from a selection of 15 sorts of Chinese tea.
The process took about 70 years.
The tea contains 16% tannin, while other types contain 9%.
500 seedlings have been prepared, 500 more will be prepared in autumn.
The first harvests are expected in 7 years.
Adygeya developed a tea program until 2010. About 9,000 hectares were provided.
Adygeya started tea growing in 1938.There were 8 land lots. Tea was
grown in the villages of Novosvobodnaya, Kurjipskaya, Sevastopolskaya,
Noboprokhladny and Shuntuk, the Maikop research center and
Makhosh-Polyana. The tea underwent cold tests in 1950. 78% of the tea
withstood -40 degrees Celsius. A special organization was developed in
1967 called the All-Union Science Research Institute of Tea and the
Tea Industry. Tea is currently grown in the village of Tsvetochny.
