Russia increases military cooperation with Azerbaijan

Russia offers Azerbaijan to modernize the Gabala radar station, said Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov in Baku after meeting his Azerbaijani counterpart Safar Abiyev, RIA Novosti reports.

The Gabala radar station, located in the north-western Azerbaijan, was built in Soviet times as one of the most important elements of missile defense system of the USSR. After Azerbaijan gained independence, Russia continued to use the station on the grounds of lease contracts.

Talking about the Azerbaijani-Russian military and technical cooperation, Anatoly Serdyukov noted the progressive development of this area. In turn, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev said that the military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia is growing rapidly.
