EU extends sanctions against Syrian leadership

The European Union once again has decided to extend sanctions against
the Syrian leadership in connection with Sunday's clashes in the city
of Hama, RIA Novosti reports, citing AFP and a representative of the
EU head of diplomacy.

According to Ashton, new sanctions against the Syrian regime are "inevitable."

On Sunday morning the armored units of the Syrian army entered the
city of Hama - a place of ant governmental rallies of the past several
months. According to human rights, about 100 civilians were killed.

The EU previously has imposed sanctions against a number of Syrian
leaders, including the president. People enlisted by the EU are
prohibited from entering the European Union, and their financial
assets in Europe were frozen.
