Russia establishes relations with Muslim Brotherhood

Russia has established direct contact with the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the most influential political forces in post-revolutionary Egypt, the Foreign Ministry's Middle East and North Africa Department's chief Sergey Vershinin said today, ITAR-TASS reports.

"I don't know why our country cannot have contact with those forces that are legally dominant in Egypt's politics," Vershinin said. He said Russia has established relations with the Freedom and Justice party, that was organized in order to represent the Muslim Brotherhood in political life of Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood is considered a terrorist organization by many countries. Russian Federation law prohibits any branches of the organization to be established in the country.
