Russia welcomes UN decision to list Caucasus Emirate as terrorist group

Russia welcomes the UN Security Council's decision to consider the Chechen separatist organization Caucasus Emirate a terrorist group, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

On July 28, a UN Security Council special committee put Caucasus Emirate in the list of the world's terrorist organizations. The list also includes Al-Qaeda.

The Caucasus Emirate was officially announced on October 31, 2007 by former president of the unrecognized Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Dokka Umarov, who became the first Emir. Russia and the United Stateshave previously designated the Caucasus Emirate as a terrorist organisation.
