Iranian parliament approves new ministers

The Iranian Parliament has approved the new ministers proposed by
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Trend reports.


165 voted for Mohammad Abbasi as Minister of Youth and Sports, 61
voted against, 19 abstained.


218 voted for Mehdi Gazanfari as Minister of Industry, Mining and
Trade, 20 against and 7 abstained.


204 voted for Abdorreza Sheykholeslami as Minister of Labour,
Cooperatives and Social Support, 31 against and 10 abstained.


216 voted for Rostam Gasemi as Minister for Petroleum, 22 against, 7 abstained.


The ministers were introduced a week ago.


Ahmadinejad dismissed Petroleum Minister Seyid Masoud Mirkazemi,
Minister for Social Development Sadyg Makhsuli and Industry Minister
Aliakbar Mehrabian in mid-May. Iran is reducing the number of
ministries from 21 to 17.


The Iranian Parliament approved the formation of two ministries out of
five by voting 174 for and 5 against, with 5 abstentions.
