Russian PM holds session of commission for socio-economic development of North Caucasus in Sochi

The Russian Prime Minister has held the third session of the
government commission for socio-economic development of the North
Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and met young people of the
district, most of whom are from the Mashuk-2011 forum, members of the
Council for Youth Policy of the NCFD and the All-Caucasian Youth
Alliance, RIA Novosti reports.


The session discussed the education sustem in the North Caucasus,
realization of the state youth policy, the socio-economic development
of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia. Alexander Khloponin,
Vice-Premier and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the NCFD,
Minister for Education and Science Andrey Fursenko, financial
ministers, heads of regions and banks were at the meeting.


Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin noted that Russia has formed as
a multi-ethnic and inter-religious state. He urged inhabitants of the
North Caucasus to leave stereotypes of highlanders as good warriors
and bad for tourism and the service industry. Putin believes that such
stereotypes come from poor education rather than mentality. He noted
that tourism is an important part of the economy and brings prosperity
to local citizens.


The prime minister said that, after the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi
are over, the government will put the stress on tourism development in
the Kavkazskiye Mineralniye Vody district.


Governor of Stavropol Territory Gayevsky said that the annual tourism
flow to the region increases by 2-3% every year, a figure which is
planned to double in 2015. Stavropol Territory has about 40 tourism
facilities under construction, mainly financed by private investors.
