Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council economic bloc have voiced significant criticism of the Assad regime for the first time in five months of unrest following Syrian President’s Bashar al-Assad latest ruthless suppression of anti-government protests, which killed 50 people on Sunday as the tanks rolled into Deir al-Zour and Houleh. The continued repression also prompted Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to withdraw their ambassadors from Damascus.
1,600 Syrian civilians were killed during unrest in the country, according to human rights activists.
