Yemen President Ali Abdallah Saleh has agreed to consider relaunching
a peace initiative to resolve the political crisis in Yemen, RIA
Novosti reports.
The initiative was announced in Er-Riyad on Wednesday. Saleh agreed to
cooperate with the opposition and international organizations.
The president of Yemen is in Saudi Arabia, where he is undergoing
rehabilitation after an assassination attempt in June. Saleh may
resign in 20 days, after reforming a government and handing power over
to the vice-president.
Saleh was injured on June 3 near the presidential palace in Sana’a on
June 3. Other media say he was hit by a bomb. Saleh received about 40%
burn injuries.
The opposition in Yemen said they will not hold negotiations until
Saleh signs a resignation letter. The president has been in power for
33 years.
