Libyan rebels capture Tripoli

Libyan rebels have captured Tripoli on August 22. Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi has one military base in Bab Al-Azizia and a small area where the Jamakhiria bunker is.

Gaddafi’s sons Seif al-Islam and Mohammed have already been captured. The Tripoli Port, TV and radio, the international airport and the highway to Tunisia are under rebel control.

The Green Square in Tripoli became empty on Monday morning, CNN reports. Dozens of vehicles with rebels were sighted, CNN correspondent Sarah Sidner said.

Al Jazeera said that about 900 prisoners have been released from the Ayn Zara Prison, most of them political prisoners. The National Transitional Government is taking control.

Muammar Gaddafi needs to realize that his reign is coming to an end. He needs to resign, US President Barack Obama said.

Obama promised that his country will continue ties with the National Transitional Government of Libya.
