European Parliament demanded settlement of frozen South Caucasian conflicts

The EUis implementing the strategy of promoting stability and
prosperity in the South Caucasus and settlement of conflicts in the
region. According to APA, citing the parliament’s press-service, this
was stated in the resolution approved by the EU parliament today.

The resolution, prepared by Bulgarian parliament member Yevgeniy
Kirillov, states that Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are political
partners of the European neighborhood since 2004, and a complex
regional strategy on the region has not been developed yet. The
deputies believe that the EU’s strategy in the South Caucasus
concentrates efforts in three spheres – settlement of conflicts,
supporting democracy, human rights and rule of law, and economic
cooperation in social development.

“Europe faces a complicated geopolitical situation in its relations
with the region, with conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh and Georgia, and
there exist tensions between Armenia and Georgia. Conflict situations
remain unacceptable”.

The European Parliament expressed its concern with recent military
expenditure and demanded withdrawal of all Armenian armed forces from
the occupied territory of Azerbaijan. The resolution says that all the
‘frozen conflicts’ are obstacles to economic and social development .
The parliament members noted the importance of the EU's energy
security.
