The legislative assembly in Russia's Rostov Region appointed Vasiliy
Golubev as governor at an extraordinary meeting on Friday. Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev put Golubev forward for the post on May
15th, Interfax reports. Golubev, 53, was on a list of candidates
proposed by the ruling United Russia party that included vice-governor
Sergey Nazarov and the mayor of Rostov-on-Don Mikhail Chenyshov.
Incumbent Vladimir Chuba was not in the list. Golubev previously
headed the Lenin municipal district of the Moscow Region.
