Alexander Khloponin warns against interethnic tensions on eve of parliamentary polls

Alexander Khloponin, Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North
Caucasian Federal District, has warned about possible attempts to
augment interethnic tensions on the eve of parliamentary polls, he
said at the Prosecutor General’s Office in Pyatigorsk on Monday, RIA
Novosti
reports.

Some political forces may use tensions in the North Caucasus for their
own popularity.

The damage caused to the economy from tax fraud in the North Caucasus
amounts to about 10 billion rubles, Khloponin said. The problem is
complicated by extremism, banditry and terrorist organizations all
over Russia, not just in the North Caucasus. Khloponin ordered
measures to be taken.
