Abkhazian authorities have begun the re-registration of residents of
Kodori Gorge villages, presidential spokesman Sergey Jonua said, RIA
Novosti reports.
Inhabitants of Kuapchara, Chkhalta, Ajara, Gentsvish, Gvanda, Saken
have been without ID for two years. The main inhabitants are
Georgians.
On 12th August 2008 Abkhazian armed forces liberated the high Kodori
Gorge from Georgian forces, restoring Abkhazian jurisdiction. People
will receive temporary IDs.
Since September 2008 the staff of the International Red Cross
Committee has been visiting mountainous Kodori Gorge villages
regularly and is monitoring the situation.
