Ayatollah Khamenei asks for safeguarding of Iranian elections

The 9th Majlis elections, due to be held in March 2012, should be well safeguarded as a divine blessing, Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said in his `Eid-ul-Fitr' (Fast Breaking Festival) prayers sermon in Tehran University on Wednesday, Trend reports, citing IRNA.

"Elections are ahead this year; elections are a national backing which should not turn into a challenge to national security," said Ayatollah Khamenei.

Terming elections as an occasion mirroring public presence and religious democracy, the Supreme Leader said the asset and a backing for security should not turn against national security.

Today, an important page turns in world history, said the Ayatollah, adding that Iranian officials and nation should maintain unity and try to fulfill their duty properly irrespective of domestic problems.
