Armenia will build nine weapon factories with Russia. Experts say they
will produce ammunition, heavy equipment, Argumenty Nedeli reports.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have recently started an arms race. This time
they are concentrating on their own production, rather than imports.
Azerbaijan has recently started production of AK-74M. But Baku puts
more effort into Turkey. They agreed on joint production of infantry
rifles and 105 mm cannons. They plan to produce 120 mm mortars. Ankara
and Baku produce valley-fire systems and missiles in Azerbaijan.
Yerevan has recently approved a program for development of military
equipment and weapons for 2011-2015. It involves import and
development of own weapon manufacturing. Last year Armenia was visited
by a major Russian delegation that held talks on further cooperation
in military industry.
