EU special representative says solving South Caucasian conflicts is shortest path for association

Philippe Lefort, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and
the Georgian Crisis, said that the shortest path for association with
the European Union for the South Caucasus is settlement of conflicts
in the region, News Armenia reports.

The statement was made at a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister
Edward Nalbandian.

Lefort said that the OSCE Minsk Group mediates the negotiation process
within the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The EU will
provide additional support in the issue.

The South Caucasus has great economic and cultural potential in the
region to be developed, the representative said. He said that the
South Caucasus is significant for realization of various joint
projects. The region connects Europe and Asian-Pacific states.
