Gajibutt Alunkachayev, former head of the Novolaksky District of Dagestan and deputy of the regional council, wounded by unidentified assailants in Makhachkala, has died in hospital, RIA Novosti reports.
Rashid Ahmedov, a driver, and Alunjachayev were attacked on Orzhonikidze and Ostrovsky Streets. Ahmedov died on the spot.
The police found two 9 mm shells. A criminal case was initiated for murder and illegal arms trafficking.
Alunkachayev was dismissed from office as deputy head of the Novolaksky District in early September 2011. He was appointed on January 18, 2010. The prosecutor’s office said that the official was illegally combining his post with being a deputy of the district council, elected on October 10, 2010.
