Turkey to send new Freedom Flotilla

Turkey is planning to send a second Freedom Flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, spokesman of the Freedom Flotilla and board member of the Fund for Protection of Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid, Hussein Orudzh said.

22 non-governmental organizations will take part, Trend reports.

The exact departure day has not been set yet. Israel attacked Freedom Flotilla-1 on May 31, 2010 to enforce the Gaza blockade. 9 Turks died. Ankara demanded official apologies and compensations for families of the killed Turks. Israel says that the blockade is to prevent smuggling of weapons and ammo.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkish navy will escort the flotilla to prevent new attacks.

The UN recognizes the Gaza blockade as legal. The force used was excessive, The New York Times said.
