Turkey to start ground operation in northern Iraq

Turkey may start a ground operation in northern Iraq, Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz said, Trend reports.

Turkish Advisor Foreign Minister Firuddin Sinirlioglu has recently visited Iraq and discussed terrorism control and attacks on the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

Turkish air forces attacked the party after terrorist acts in south-eastern Turkey on August 17. Terrorists killed 9 Turkish servicemen. The Turkish raid was the first in northern Iraq in over a year.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party has been at war with Turkey, demanding independence, for over 25 years, resulting in over 40,000 deaths. The UN and the EU recognize the party as a terrorist organization.
