ANC wants dialogue with authorities, not upheaval

The Armenian National Congress expects the state authorities to comment on the proposal for early elections, head of the Armenian National Movement, Aram Manukyan, told a press conference today, Armenia Today reports.

Dialogue with the authorities is necessary, but without upheaval in the country, Manukyan said. However, the ANC cannot hold the dialogue as long as there are political prisoners.

Manukyan said that the 130 pages of counter-arguments presented by the authorities were not presented in full form for the opposition. The document was published by media sources.

The official noted that the authorities do not necessarily need to release activist Tigran Arakelyan or meet them. A declaration needs to be published. Manukyan reminded journalists that the authorities have time to make decisions until late September, otherwise the ANC would consider it a refusal to participate in dialogue.
