Dagestan is marking Peoples’ Unity Day for the first time today. The day was established at the 3rd assembly of Dagestani peoples in December 2010.
Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov signed a decree setting the day as part of marking the 270th anniversary of the victory over Iranian conquerors headed by Nadir-Shah, islamdag.ru reports.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the republic on the day and its contribution to warfare, Yuga.ru reports.
Medvedev noted that Dagestan contributed to the socio-economic and spiritual development of the state and enforcement of statehood at all times. Dagestan demonstrated unity in the Great Patriotic War and the fight against terrorism.
Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov said that the Dagestani peoples are involved in solving numerous problems and that their unity will be the key to a prosperous Dagestan.
