Turkey and Iran to hold joint military operation in Qandil Mountains

Turkey and Iran plan to hold a joint counter-terrorism operation in the Qandil Mountains, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Trend reports.


Turkey renewed military operations against the Kurdistan Workers' Party after a terrorist attack that resulted in deaths of 9 Turkish servicemen on August 17. Turkey organized the first assaults in northern Iraq in over a year.


The war between the Kurdistan Workers' Party and Turkey has been ongoing for over 25 years and resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people. The party demands an independent Kurdish state. The UN and the EU recognize the party as a terrorist organization.
