Tigran Mukuchan tipped to be head of Armenian CEC

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has appointed the ex-head of the Appeal Court, Tigran Mukuchan, as a member of the Central Electoral Commission, Novosti-Armenia cites the presidential press service.

A press release noted that the corresponding changes were made in accordance with the presidential decree of 13 July 2011 'On appointing members of the Central Electoral Commission.'

Sargsyan signed the order ceasing Mukuchan's duties as chairman of the Appeal Court.

Armenian media believe Mukuchan to be the likeliest candidate of the authorities to head the Commission.

The previous incumbent, Garegin Azaryan, died suddenly of a heart attack on 10 September.
