Police in Dagestan released those accused of beating NTV journalist Omar Magomedov on Friday evening, due to the absence of a statement by the victim, NTV reported on Saturday, citing Magomedov. "The police have already identified the attackers, they were detained but later released, because I have not made a written statement. I'm going to do it later, now I cannot" Magomedov said, RIA Novosti reports.
Omar Magomedov will stay in hospital for at least another 10 days. He had an open fracture of the nose and needs surgery.
The conflict with the three young men came from the journalist, when they began to cross the road on a red light in front of the car Magomedov was in. The correspondent made a remark to the road violators. According to NTV, after the fight the reporter went to an accident and emergency station, but the same men were again waiting for him, who had brought two others with them. As a result, the journalist was subjected to repeated beatings.
