Iran marks anniversary of war with Iraq

Iran is marking the anniversary of the war with Iraq as part of Sacred Defender Week, IRIN reports.


All subdivisions of armed forces, Revolutionary Guards Corps and the aviation services are taking part in a military parade for the anniversary. The parade is being held at the mausoleum of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.


Military parades are being held in Tehran and other cities to commemorate the war with Iraq that started on September 22, 1980, with Iraq’s attack on Khuzestan. The war ended on August 20, 1988, with a ceasefire agreement. No border changes were made.
