Three dead in clash between Turkish soldiers and Kurdish separatists

Three people were killed Wednesday night in Van province in southeastern Turkey in an armed conflict between security forces and alleged members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, Hurriyet Daily News reports on Thursday.

Fighting broke out when security forces pursuing operations in the Çantak district of Van came across a group of Kurdish separatists in the area. One soldier and two village guards lost their lives. Two more guards were wounded.

A widespread search of the area began immediately. Reports said clashes continued on and off in the area throughout the night and into Thursday morning.
