Pyatigorsk starts bicycle racing

Pyatigorsk is hosting the 19th bicycle race 'Friendship of Peoples of the North Caucasus' at Mount Mashuk today, organized by the Russian Federation of Bicycle Sports and the Adygeyan committee for physical fitness and sports, Yuga.ru reports.


The race has the following route: Stavropol Territory, Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Krasnodar Territory, Adygeya. It consists of 12 stages and 1,500 km, with an altitude difference of 2,000 m, Vice-President of the Russian Federation for Bicycle Sports Anatoly Lenyuk said.


100 sportsmen will participate in it.


They will cover 150 km in Pyatigorsk (Essentukovskaya - Bekeshevskaya - Yessentuki), 105 km on September 26 (Uchkeken - Dzhiguta - Teresa), 140 km on 27 September - group race (Uchkeken - Dombai) September 28 - rest day, September 29 - group race of 197 km (Dombai - Arkhyz) September 30 - Individual Race 15 km (Arkhyz - Astroobservatoriya) October 1 - group race with 145 km (Arkhyz - Psebai). Then the racers will compete in Krasnodar Territory and Adygea.


The race will reach Maikop on October 3 and finish there at Partizanskaya Polyana on October 6.
The first such race was initiated by President Jarimov of Adygeya in 1992. This year's race is to mark the republic's 20th anniversary.
