Armenia hands Azerbaijani prisoner of war over to third state

Armenia has handed over an Azerbaijani prisoner of war, Novruz oglu Guseynov, to a third state, Armenia Today reports.


The office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration helped transport the prisoner.


Junior Sergeant Guseynov was captured on August 27, 2010. Shakhin Sayilov, secretary of the state commission for prisoners, missing citizens and Azerbaijani prisoners, spoke about Guseynov’s transportation. He said that 3 Armenian prisoners will also be moved to a third state.


An Armenian family of five that had surrendered to Azerbaijan in January 2010 also expressed their willingness to move to a third state.


There are three Armenian servicemen and 5 civilians in Azerbaijan. The family consists of Yegishe, Ruzanna, Alfred, Gayane and Petros Gevorkyan. The two prisoners are Okhan Arutyunyan and Gevorg Tovmasyan, who surrendered to Azerbaijan in May 2009, and Karen Arutyunyan, who surrendered in July 2009.
