Georgia to pass new Electoral Code in November

The Georgian Parliament will pass a new Electoral Code in November, chairman of the legal committee Pavle Kublashvili said at a presentation of the new Electoral Code, Georgia Online reports.


Experts from a Venice commission will make conclusions on October 26-28. Discussions of the code will start in November.


The new Electoral Code will increase the number of MPs from 150 to 190. 83 of them will be elected via the majority system, 107 – proportionally. The parliamentary seats will be distributed proportionally 50/50. Political party lists will be increased from 100-200 to 150-250.


The new code will remove video monitoring of polling stations and marking of voters.


An electoral subject that exceeds the 5% limit automatically receives $606,000 to cover expenses for the electoral campaign, $180,000 of them for advertising. The sum is to be returned by parties from own budget within 15 days after elections.


Individuals have an increased electoral fund to $36,000, legal bodies – to $120,000.


Results of presidential polls were to be announced on 8th day, now on 20th.
