Nato’s Libya operation is largely over, says Carter Ham, Commander of the US Africa Command, The Voice of Russia reports on Sunday..
At a high level meeting in Nato’s HQ in Brussels, US Military Command will assess the current situation in Libya and decide if the Nato operation there can be wound up. Commander Ham stresses that the US and its Nato allies have no plans to seize Col Gaddafi but rather protect the Libyan people from violence.
Most of Libya’s territory is now under the rule of the National Transitional Council acting as the interim government. The towns of Sirte and Bani Walid remain under control of Gaddafi’s supporters.
