Russian interior minister meets police in Makhachkala

Dagestani leader Magomedsalam Magomedov and Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev held a meeting with police officials in Makhachkala today, RIA Dagestan reports.

Nurgaliyev noted that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev set the goal to protect Dagestani citizens from extremism and terrorism. Efficiency of measures taken in the republic was considered at the Federal Operative Headquarters in January 2011.

The Russian minister announced statistics for this year. He said that 153 militants had been killed, including 20 leaders, 161 had been arrested, 3 gave up voluntarily, 26 bases and 66 caches had been found. 43 terrorism crimes were prevented. Terrorism actions are well planned and aimed for the maximum possible victims, as seen in the blasts in Makhachkala on September 21 and Levashinsky District on September 28.

Solution of the problem requires consolidation of all law-enforcers, executives, publicity and religious organizations. An inter-department working group of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCTC) was formed for the cause.

The local law-enforcers need to consider improvement of the material-technical basis, armored vehicles.
Dagestani Interior Minister, Police General-Major Abdurashid Magomedov talked on measures taken in the republic to fight terrorism. He said that crime increased by about 6% in the last 9 months, grave crimes dropped by 4.5%.

President Magomedsalam Magomedov said that the situation in Dagestan is under control, but it is not enough. Terrorism destabilizes the situation. It hinders normal economic plans and complicates the political situation. Local administrations and executives have great responsibility for progress.

Magomedov said that material-technical support is essential. Skilled staff and technical support would allow achievement of better results. It could reduce casualties. Terrorists attack own citizens, demonstrating the collapse of their ideology. They should stopped from making any further steps in their crimes, the Dagestani president concluded.
