Russian and Azerbaijani interior ministers discuss border issues

The Azerbaijani and Russian interior ministers, Ramil Usubov and Rashid Nurgaliyev, Dagestani interior minister Abdurashid Magomedov and head of the Main Police Directorate of Russia in the North Caucasian Federal District Sergey Chenchik have had a meeting in the town of Guba in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.


Nurgaliyev said that the situation on the Russian-Azerbaijani border is stable and is improving. The minister proposed the continuation of such meetings, but added that there is need for cooperation in the foreign economic, financial, banking and other spheres.


Nurgaliyev informed his Azerbaijani counterpart on various issues. He underlined the Operation Border Shield that had been accomplished. A similar operation is planned for 2012 as well.


The ministers signed a joint protocol and expressed a consolidated view on the need for joint counter-crime efforts on border territories.
