Russia supports the dialogue of the ‘Six’ and Iran

Russia calls for a dialogue of the ‘Six’ international mediators
(Russia, the USA, China, France, UK and Germany) on the Iranian
nuclear program settlement with Tehran, the official spokesman of
Russian Foreign Ministry Andrey Nesterenko said in his comments
published on the ministry’s website on Tuesday.

In October 2009 Russia, France and the USA in cooperation with the
IAEA (‘Vienna Group’), within the framework of the dialogue with Iran
on nuclear program settlement, developed an agreement-project in
Vienna and handed it to Iran. The agreement involves handing over 1.2
tons (70% of the total supplies) of low-enriched uranium to Russia.
Russia will enrich this uranium to 20% and return it to Tehran.

However, Iran, referring to the unreliability of western partners,
demanded that the exchange be carried out on Iranian territory. The
West accused Iran of inflexibility and reluctance to resolve the
issue, motivating the USA to take harsher measures against Iran, RIA
Novosti
reports.

Nesterenko said that the agreements reached between Brazil, Turkey and
Iran on the fuel exchange scheme for Tehran's research reactor on May
17th have increased international concern.

According to the trilateral agreement between Iran and the Vienna
Group, Tehran should deliver 1200 kg of low-enriched uranium to Turkey
and the group will provide Iran with 120 kg of 20%-enriched uranium.
On Monday, May 24th, Iran informed the IAEA of its commitment to the
agreements on uranium exchange.

At the same time, the diplomat noted that the dialogue between the
‘Six’ and Iran is not limited to the exchange issues.

On May 18th US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared that
Washington, Moscow and Beijing had reached an agreement on a new UN
Security Council resolution on Iran.
