Kuwait will open an embassy in Armenia, Armenian Vice-Premier and Minister for Territorial Administration Armen Gevorkyan said, News Armenia reports.

Armenia has had an embassy in Kuwait for over a year. An ambassador from Kuwait will arrive in Azerbaijan by the end of 2011, Gevorkyan said at the end of the first session of the Armenian-Kuwaiti inter-governmental commission in Yerevan.

Kuwait is the first state in the Gulf to form diplomatic ties with Armenia. The Finance Minister of Kuwait, Mustafa Jasem al-Shamali, noted that his country is interested in Armenia.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited Kuwait in 2009, the minister reminded the commission. Kuwait will support Armenia in spheres that need to be developed, such as transport and railways, in order to improve the Armenian economy.

Al-Shamali’s delegation to Armenia has been on a visit since October 3 to discuss prospects of cooperation in the economy and other spheres.
