Salehi said that the meeting was held at the request of Bahrain's Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly session in New York.
In the meeting, Salehi said he emphasized that supporting inalienable and legitimate rights of Muslims was Iran's key policy position, raising serious concerns over the recent developments in Bahrain.
He also told his Bahraini counterpart that constructive talks and confidence-building measures to meet public demands was an appropriate solution to the problems facing the Persian Gulf kingdom.
