The Iranian Naval Forces have approved projects for aircraft carriers and will start research and construction, Captain Mansur Maksuddu, Iranian Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces for research and operative autonomy, said on September 28, Iran News reports.
Iran is capable of building an aircraft carrier, despite much time needed for construction. The country needs to build other types of ships.
Maksuddu noted that one of the most advanced ships is the Jamaran 2 destroyer, which is about to be completed. The Jamaran 1 type Mowj entered service on February 19, 2010.
The Iranian naval authorities announced plans to send naval forces to the territorial waters of the USA.
