The earlier active negotiations start the better. Inactivity leads to war, French President Nikolas Sarkozy said at a meeting with his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan in Yerevan today.
The French leader underlined that he sees a solution of conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, where Armenia and Azerbaijan need to hold a dialogue.
President Sarkozy also touched upon the tragic events of 1915. He says that Turkey is a great state and needs to properly evaluate the past and see the bright and dark pages of its history. States only become stronger with the recognition of history, Sarkozy underlines.
Some Armenian and Azerbaijani experts believe that Sarkozy’s visit to Armenia is closely connected with the coming elections in France. Hundreds of thousands of Armenians live in France. The visit to Armenia is of greater importance than the visits to Baku and Tbilisi, Alexander Iskandaryan, Director of the Institute for the Caucasus, told Vestnik Kavkaza.
Rasim Musabekov, an Azerbaijani political analyst and MP, said that the visit to Yerevan would give certain support from Armenian communities in France.
