Russia to prevent conflicts between CIS states

Moscow sees chances of conflicts between CIS members, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexey Borodavkin said today, presenting a protocol on amendments to the Collective Security Treaty (CST) at the parliament, RIA Novosti reports.


The protocol clarifies use of force to react to crises of CSTO members.


The diplomat emphasized that Russia will prevent any conflicts between CIS members and support integration processes of security and the economy.


The deputy minister says that the Collective Security Treaty has points on its revaluation to realities that occurred after the formation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in 2002 and the experiences of Kyrgyzstan in 2010.


Borodavkin clarified that the protocol introduces amendments to the treaty aimed at development and realization of support for CSTO members to neutralize foreign aggression and threats to security, stability, territorial unity and sovereignty. This allows use of the armed forces, collective security forces, police, special services and staff of the emergencies ministry.
