Turkmenistan needs vessels to patrol its borders and enforce security, as well as fighting terrorism, poaching and drug trafficking, Trend cites Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s press-service as saying.
The president is on a visit to a naval facility on the outskirts of Turkmenbashi.
The program for development of naval forces until 2015 was approved. A Naval Institute of the Defense Ministry was opened in June 2010.
