South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity has ordered the police not to persecute supporters of Dzambolat Tedeyev, Chief Coach of the Russian national free wrestling team and former candidate for president, and called them “convicts of the situation”, RIA Novosti cites head of Kokoity’s press service, Vyacheslav Sedov.
The Central Electoral Commission refused to register Tedeyev as candidate on September 30 due to residence qualification of less than 10 years. Seven voted against Tedeyev’s registration, six voted for and two abstained. Tedeyev’s supporters organized protests and attempted to break into the government building.
The Supreme Court of South Ossetia recognizes the decision of the CEC as illegal. South Ossetia will have presidential polls on November 13.
