Receiving a Shengen visa will require dactylography. Citizens from North Africa will undergo the procedure as well. Non-Shengen zones will have similar requirements in two years, Trend reports.
New information on the VIS visa system was announced in 25 states on Tuesday. The system was first introduced in North Africa. It will later appear in the Middle East and Asia. Over 2,500 consulates will use it in the near future.
About 13 million Shengen visas are issued by 25 states every year. The system does not always process all the documents on time, which causes cases of fraud and falsifications of documents.
Fingerprints will put an end to the so-called practice of “passport renting” by Asian states. They may “rent” a passport with a multi-use Shengen visa for 2,000 euros, then send it back via mail and use it again.
Euobserver.com said that 91 million euros have been spent on formation of the VIS system. The VIS servers are in Strasbourg, their maintenance will cost 20 million euros annually. Income from 13 million visas costing 16 euros each will cover expenses.
