Armenia becomes chairman of CIS Council of Interior Ministers

Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev has been replaced by his Armenian counterpart Alik Sargsyan as chair of the CIS Council of Interior Ministers in Yerevan today, RIA Novosti reports.


The Armenian police chief expressed hope that the organization will start a new stage of development.


Nurgaliyev noted that they have a well-operating system of information exchange and need to continue efforts to fight crime. He added that the council prepared an Honorary Certificate and Symbol for members of the CIS. The Russian minister believes that it may be used to honour police officers as part of marking the 20th anniversary.


The council will hold talks on transnational crime, illegal trafficking of arms, drugs and people and searches for criminals. Sessions are held annually. Special attention is paid to cyber crime. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended the Council of Interior Ministers.
