Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said his country is ready to offer a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, if the sides welcomed an Iranian contribution, PanArmenian reports.
“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved in an appropriate environment through negotiations. If Armenia and Azerbaijan express the wish, Iran is committed to make efforts to resolve the conflict,” Iranian FARS news agency quotes Iran’s MFA spokesman
Mehmanparast made the remarks during a press conference in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. “Extra-regional countries seek to exploit disputes to interfere in regional affairs,” he said.
Mehmanparast said Iran supports the continuation of talks and consultations on the issue and is ready to facilitate the conflict. Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad answered a question by an Armenian radio journalist during the UN General Assembly session: “The Islamic Republic of Iran has friendly relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, I encourage the parties to resolve the conflict based on justice and dialogue to avoid problems.”
